It was decided that due to segregation in the south, and Jim Crow laws that a black congregation should be established in central Brevard County. The search for a black minister, who would be supported by the Poinsett Drive Church of Christ began. Brother John Perry Henry, full of the Holy Spirit, great wisdom, and very knowledgeable of the scriptures accepted the position in 1953. He served Fiske Blvd and the central Brevard community faithfully until his death in 1983. Brother Henry was very dedicated in his service to the Lord and he earned the respect of those in and out of the church. His method of using charts to illustrate his lessons and teach the word of God predated Power Point presentations that are now used all over the world. Brother Henry taught and influenced many men to become ministers of the gospel. Joe Felton, Hansel Bell, David Starks, Jessie Dean, Julius Graham, Freddie Miller, Sr., Alvin McCoy, and Rico Brown just to name a few.
In 1953, the Factory Street Church of Christ was established in Cocoa. In 1972, the name was changed to the Fiske Blvd Church of Christ, and moved to its current location, 805 S Fiske Blvd in Rockledge to support the growth of the congregation. Over the years many committed ministers have served this great congregation of believers. All praise to God as the Fiske Blvd Church of Christ, where Zachary Pope currently serves as Senior Minister continues to serve the central Brevard community.
